Review: Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara

I recently purchased this mascara and featured it in my “Drugstore and Forever 21 Haul” post. Anyone who’s met me knows I love natural and organic beauty products. I do my best to use natural skin care products, but it is harder to keep to this practice when using makeup. A lot of natural cosmetic lines don’t perform well enough for me, and many don’t offer a good range of shades to suit various skin tones, including mine. So when I heard of the Organic Wear line released by Physician’s Formula, I was wary and curious. I wanted to love it, but would the products endure my high standards? Today we’re going to find out if 100% Natural Origin mascara passes the test (physical, not written).

I love the leaf handle. So cute! And that's badly chipped Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Jumpin' Jade on my nails.

The company website says “Revolutionary 100% Natural Origin formula contains the purest ingredients and provides 5x Lash Boosting for lash length, volume and & definition naturally”.

Did it provide 5 five times last boosting? Let’s take a look.

My bare eye (try not to scream). I am wearing MAC Studio Fix concealer in NW35 under my eye and I curled my lashes with a Revlon Lash Curler.

Wearing the mascara:

One coat of mascara

Two coats of mascara.

There is an improvement in the thickness and length of my lashes, and they felt soft instead of hard, as is the case with a lot of mascaras (the dreaded spider legs). One problem I did have was with smudging and lack of staying power. I got teary-eyed while watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, (yeah, yeah, I’m a major sap) so I dabbed a tissue at the corner of my eye to catch the moisture. I always do this carefully to avoid smudging my makeup. I pulled the tissue away and saw a huge black spot on it, like an ink dot on paper. The mascara came off at the slightest hint of moisture.

I did not like the brush very much. Here’s a photo of it:

It was a little difficult combing this through my lashes. It made clumps more likely to form, and I felt like I had to comb through several times just to cover all the lashes properly.

Ingredients

CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) FRUIT WATER*, GLYCERIN, IRON OXIDE, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, WATER, BEESWAX*,  JOJOBA ESTERS, TAPIOCA STARCH*, COPERNICIA CERIFERA (CARNAUBA) WAX*, STEARIC ACID, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE*, CELLULOSE GUM, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT*,  GLYCINE SOYA (SOYBEAN) OIL*, HYDROLYZED ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) PROTEIN, LEUCONOSTOC/RADISH ROOT FERMENT FILTRATE, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) LEAF EXTRACT*. Pros: Nice black color, attractive packaging, natural ingredients, reasonable price ($10, and it’s sometimes on sale), does not harden lashes.
Cons: Wipes off easily (not for rainy weather), hard-to-use brush, tube is a little thicker than the average tube (only a problem if you have a small purse).

Grade: B-

Available at pharmacies like Rite Aid, CVS, Duane Reade, and on Amazon.com

It’s such a shame that this starts coming off so easily, especially since it makes your lashes look incredible! I may still try this out, just because it looks REALLY awesome. (Aside from the clunky looking packaging, I suppose xD)

    • I would recommend waiting for a CVS or Rite Aid sale. I think the Duane Reade on Broadway near Bleeker still offers a rebate deal on the Jumbo Lash mascara, so you’ll only have to pay the sales tax in the end. 🙂

The ingredients sound really nice, but it’s a shame it doesn’t perform that well. I don’t like waterproof mascaras so I expect the ones I use to smudge a little, but not to this extent. I still may try it the next time PF goes on sale out of curiosity. Thank you for the review!
