Tutorial: Everyday Summer Makeup For Tanned Skin

I am posting this a bit later than I thought I would, but as Shrek would say “better late than never!” Or does he say “better out than in”? In any case, I am going to show you step by step how to do one of my favorite everyday looks for summer.

This look was created one spring afternoon last year when I was perusing blogs and watching Youtube videos. I came across one that was simple, pretty and included a medley of colors I wouldn’t even think of putting together. It was also a look that could be worn with any outfit, to practically any occasion. That’s when the truth hit me like a Mack (not MAC) truck: every single makeup look I had ever done was custom tailored to a specific outfit. I didn’t have a single look that I thought of as a “go-to” look if I was in a rush and couldn’t think what to put on. I would always color coordinate makeup looks to match the outfit I was wearing. I owned so much makeup, I wanted to find ways to use it all. That meant changing my look every day.

Well, as you can imagine, the makeup artist in me was mortified. How could I make such a dreadful error? I set out right away to rectify my mistake, and came up with this.

I started with UD Eden PP. If you want a more intense color, you can use a gold eye base like MAC Indianwood. I skipped that step and proceeded to apply a peachy shimmer e/s (UD Blaze) over the lid up to the crease using a fluffy brush. I've also used UD Baked in the past, to shake things up. I then use the same brush to apply a rosy gold e/s (Urban Decay X) to the inner 2/3 of the lid for a brighter effect.

Using a crease brush, apply a shimmery rich bronze e/s (MAC Bronze) a little into the crease and into the outer v. Blend with your finger.

Use a matte medium taupe brown e/s (MAC Charcoal Brown) to darken the outer v. Blend with a blending brush.

I applied a pale shimmery gold e/s (WnW Vanity palette) to the inner corner and browbone. Blend with the finger and blending brush.

Apply a dark brown e/l to the upper lashline and lower lashline (to the middle). Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Liner in Dark Chocolate.

Finish up with a squeeze from the eyelash curler and black mascara (PF Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara).

For the cheeks I like to use a peach or coral blush (NARS Torrid is my fave, but I sometimes reach for Deep Throat). Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Spicy Cinnamon is the perfect complement to the shimmery eye makeup and peachy cheeks.

Hope you like it!

Have you written a review of NARS Deepthroat? I’ve been thinking about getting it, so I’ve been looking for a few!
