Eco Emi- September 2014

I present to you…..my last Eco Emi box for a while. 😦

I cancelled my subscription. I just wasn’t very impressed with the last few boxes, and my limited college student budget can’t accommodate a $15 per month gift-to-me that isn’t very satisfying.

I’m a little disappointed, but I’m going to keep my eye on the website and read future reviews on other people’s blogs. If the boxes improve, I may resubscribe.

So far I love the coffee and the cookie. I like the eye serum, but I’ll have to keep using it until I decide it’s worth spending any money on.

As you can see by the bamboo towel, yoga mat cleaner and wipes, there wasn’t much else in the box that I could really use.

I am a human pet to two cats, a full time college student majoring in Cultural Anthropology and an organic food enthusiast (read: organic food freak) who cooks, bakes, and has not burned down the kitchen (I'm waiting for it). New York has put up with all of this thus far, so here is where I reside. I can be reached for comments, questions, complaints, and incoherent babbling at: themakeuptrain@yahoo.com

Wait – Yoga mat cleaner?? Is that a thing? O_o I mean, I clean my pilates mat, but water and any gentle detergent seem to work…

Cookies are always a plus, however. Gotta keep the adventuring rations going.

It’s a shame the subscription wasn’t living up to your expectations, but the funny thing is that I read a lot of beauty/lifestyle subscription box reviews, and it feels like about 80% of them are ‘neutral to meh’, with a further 10% being ‘WTF?! Sucky!’. I have to confess, it hasn’t sold me on the idea of subscription boxes as a thing (not that we have many options here in Middle Earth anyway). I think if a subscription box isn’t living up to your expectations (even if it’s not *horrible*) then you should jettison it from your life without regret, and get yourself a $15 gift you know you’ll like from your local/online (legit) fairtrade/organic store instead!

    • I had the same reaction to the cleaner.

Some companies give you a quiz to see what you’d like before you subscribe. I know it’s not possible to please everyone, but I feel that they just aren’t trying. :/

If Eco Emi does improve, there’s a chance I might resubscribe. It was fun to get a surprise once a month. 🙂
