My Experience at the Jin Soon West Village Salon

As a holiday gift, I treated two of my best friends to manicures at Jin Soon. Since I had never gotten a professional manicure before (scandalous!), I booked a slot for myself.

I booked our appointments online. They require a credit or debit card for reservations.

The salon itself is rather small. There are about 6 tables in the front for manicurists to work at. The pedicures are done in the backroom. I didn’t get a good enough look to see how many pedicure stations they have.

The receptionist who checked us in was lukewarm in her greeting, but not exactly rude. She wasn’t especially friendly, though. She told me to choose a nail polish from the selection against the wall. My male friend waited while I chose one.

I sat down at one of the aforementioned tables while the manicurist got to work on my hands. My second friend came in at that point and she was allowed to choose a nail polish as well.

My manicurist was very nice and friendly. She filed, buffed, oiled my nails, spread lotion on my hands and wrapped them in warm, damp cloths. It felt marvelous. I think she used the Jin Soon house brand base coat and top coat.

The shade I chose was Jin Soon Soubrette. I had never tried a Jin Soon nail polish before and I was excited to see what they were like.

The same day and the day after, my manicure looked stunning. I loved the color and I thought she did a great job.

This was on day 2. You can see the tips are starting to wear a little.

By Day 3, it was starting to chip. I was surprised because I had thought a professional paint job would last a couple more days. My at-home manicures sometimes last 5 days if I used a base coat and top coat.

I would go back to Jin Soon for a maintenance manicure (in between my at-home, unprofessional hack jobs). I may just bring my own top coat and base coat. My female friend who went with me said it may have been the particular polish that was used (she chose a Chanel shade, and her mani lasted weeks. That is amazing because she works as a housekeeper). I will purchase Soubrette and see if that is the case. I am hoping it’s not because I love the color and I would love to wear this shade again.

  1. Wow weeks really is good considering the housekeeping. I’m forever washing/cleaning something so getting polish to stick around is a bit of a challenge. Good luck next time around. Here’s to hoping it’s not the polish! It really is a pretty shade!

    the shade looks lovely 🙂

I love that shade! I’m sorry it chipped so fast.

  4. Chips on day three after a professional mani? Not impressive. But with your friends better results, it really might be down to the polish, which I hope isn’t that case, as the color is very lovely.
I only get pedicures done professionally, about twice a year, and keep them up myself. I just don’t have the patience to go for manicures regularly.

the shade is pretty…it would have been better if it lasted a little longer 🙂
