Ethnicity Tag!

The very wonderful Tricia of Tips Capsule  inspired me to do this tag.

I rarely talk about my own self a lot on here, choosing to stick to beauty and skincare talk. But this looked so interesting I just had to do it.

What is your ethnicity?

This is a complicated question (like everything else about me lol). My ethnic background is South Asian (Indian), Afghan, Iranian and Lebanese. However, because my parents are from Guyana, I am not really connected to these cultures as much as I would like to be. :/

When was the last time you visited your country?

I was born and raised in the United States, but if my parents’ country can also be called my country, I visited Guyana in 1986.

Name one household item that best represents your culture

The tawa. Most Americans use a frying pan or skillet for making pancakes. In my childhood household we used a tawa. 🙂

Name one ethnic food that you enjoy the most.

Just one? I have so many! Chicken curry, sweet rice, gulab jamun, chana masala, Chinese black bean cake (Guyana is very diverse, ya know), and many more.

What part of your country are you from?

I’m from NYC, but my family hails from Georgetown and Windsor Forest.

What song reminds you of your country?

This one. I beg for your forgiveness in advance. 😛

Do you speak your language?

My ancestral languages are Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Pashto and Farsi. Unfortunately I don’t speak any of these, but I really want to learn!

I am a human pet to two cats, a full time college student majoring in Cultural Anthropology and an organic food enthusiast (read: organic food freak) who cooks, bakes, and has not burned down the kitchen (I'm waiting for it). New York has put up with all of this thus far, so here is where I reside. I can be reached for comments, questions, complaints, and incoherent babbling at:

  1. Oh that is so cool, you have a really diverse background!

  2. Anubhuti says:

So much diversity in you background 🙂 Loved the fact that you cherish all of them 🙂

  3. What a fun tag! Windsor Forest sounds so mystical and cool! 🙂

  4. Now that is quite a mixture, very interesting. I am pretty boring in comparison: Bred, born and raised in Germany where I still live.
