How I do love me a shiny red lip! And unlike the violent, Dracula-ish way of getting one, Revlon released some new lip products, one of which is Carnelian.
The applicator, differing from so many liquid lipsticks, comes with an actual lip brush and not your standard doe-foot applicator.
I suspect this is because the product is of a different formula and consistency than other liquid lipsticks. It would soak into a regular doe-foot applicator. It has to be applied with a brush.
Carnelian is a deep red which falls just one step above burgundy. It has a creme finish and slightly cool tones. I found it to look amazing on me despite leaning more cool than warm.
In natural light:
On my lips, it looks absolutely beautiful and sexy. “Sexy” is not a word I often associate with myself, so take note of this historic occasion. 😛
I felt comfortable wearing it and it wasn’t too sticky. If I didn’t eat or drink anything, it lasted about 5 hours on me.
Now we come to the issues with this product…….
If I did eat/drink something (which I would need to do, since I’m not an android, at least not yet) it came off very quickly and easily. It also came off easily in general. If I lightly rubbed off a speck just under my lip, some of the lip lacquer would come off. It doesn’t really sink into the lips and stay in place for hours like NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams or Tarte Tartiest Lip Paints. It sits on top of lip skin.
I can’t see this working for most people who have active lives. It may work for a stage performer or someone who needs a shiny red lip for a couple of hours and will have time for touch-ups. This seems like a high-maintenance product for the average person. I would worry too much about red lipstick being all over my face when I’m at work.
Pros: Beautiful shade, beautiful finish, feels great on the lips, affordable, nice packaging, applies nicely.
Cons: Too high-maintenance, wipes off too easily.
If you feel like your life is at a slower pace and you have time for touch-ups, try this. If not, look for a lipstick that has better staying power. It’s a shame really, because this looks so gorgeous on me and I really wanted to keep it.
