Self Care in the Beauty Blogging World

We don’t often talk about mental health, mental wellness and self care in beauty blogging. We spend many hours of our personal time photographing products, swatching makeup, editing photos, writing detailed posts, and generally working. It’s work work work for us.

In addition to regular jobs, families, social engagements and many other things that fill our lives.

I want to discuss this issue: are we beauty bloggers doing enough for ourselves? If you get stressed out and miss a few days of posting, do you feel like an inadequate blogger? Do you feel like you are letting your followers down? How do you cope with these feelings?

Do you ever do fun things for yourself, like read a book for a couple of hours, go to the pool, anything fun?

I’ve been neglecting my own self care. This is not healthy for me, since I suffer from severe depression and PTSD.

One of my favorite things to do is sit in a peaceful spot and read a book. It’s soothing for my nerves and really quiets my head.

ALERT: Major nerd reveal ahead! 😛

I really enjoy going to The Cloisters and sitting in the Cuxa Gardens or near the Pontaut Chapter House to read a fun novel.

This is the Chapter House at the museum.

A view from my favorite spot.

The Cuxa Gardens houses medieval era herbs. The scent is so fragrant in the air.

I like Fort Tryon Park (located at the top of Manhattan) because it’s a lesser known, quieter park. Central Park is also beautiful, but’s a very popular, famous park and it’s hard to get any privacy or solitude with selfie-snapping tourists popping up every five minutes. 😛

For now, this is what I have been doing as my self care habit. Do you have any self care habits?

If this topic interests you, I can do a weekly post on self care and mental wellness.

  1. Yes, go ahead and do this weekly! I don’t think a beauty blog necessarily needs to be strictly about beauty. It’s your baby so you do with it whatever the heck you like and you just write about whatever is important to you!

  2. I think that is an important question. I feel horrible if I miss a post, but I am a Type A personality in all aspects of my life, and I need my husband to remind me that this is actually a hobby every once in a while. My rule is: No blog work after 9 pm, and none when the children are around. I do sometimes stick to that rule…

  3. I only wish I lived near a beautiful place like that! I’d visit too! Daily! I do try and take some time for myself, but for me it’s difficult trying to quiet my thoughts. I’m an over-thinker and sometimes I stress myself out way more than I need to. I think my blog is my ME time. It’s honestly the only thing I can do without worrying about this or that. Great idea for a post though, Chris!
