Since I allowed my MAC Procard to expire, I haven’t really bought much from the company. I purchased a couple of MSFs from a Facebook makeup group and that was about it.
While in Virginia, I took a chance to visit a MAC store at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City .
It’s a neat place. If you all ever go to Arlington check it out.
So anyway, the sales associates are much nicer and less snobby than NYC SAs. Since I had a positive experience at the store, I bought two pencil eyeliners and one gel liner.
Today I will be reviewing the pencil liners.
Fluidline Eye Pencil in Earth Sign.
I had no idea that Fluidline is now in pencil form. I was really out of the loop with MAC products. It’s a nifty idea: put the performance and quality of the gel liner in a convenient and low-maintenance mechanical pencil.
Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Bountiful Brown.
I had seen BB across the Net on several blogs. It’s a staple for brown-eyed people and anyone who loves warm-toned, neutral makeup.
So, from left to right: Bountiful Brown and Earth Sign.
Fluidline is on the top and Bountiful Bronze is on the bottom.
MAC’s description of Fluidline Eye Pencil:
“An eye liner that performs as well as Fluidline but in pencil form. High-coverage colour provides excellent and even payoff. The extremely soft and gliding formula is easy to blend shortly after application. Smudge-resistant. Offered in a range of finishes.”
Earth Sign is described as a “deep brown”.
It’s a chocolate-brown creme with no shimmer. There are traces of shimmer on my pencil’s tip which came from the eyeshadow I normally wear, and I find that this makes the eyeliner appear a little lighter in color.
I am able to wear this on my upper lashline all day, from 8:00am to 7:00pm. It does not smudge or smear. On my waterline it lasts 5 hours. Not bad, but it performs better on my upper lashline.
Pros: Great pigmentation and smooth application, easy to use and convenient. lasts all day on upper lashline, no issues with packaging (it twists up nicely with no trouble), slim tube fits into purse without any hassle.
Cons: Doesn’t last all day on waterline.
Fluidline Eye Pencil: $16.50
MAC’s description of Powerpoint Eye Pencil:
“Waterproof. Long-wearing. Metallic, shimmer and matte finishes. Smooth to apply. Won’t transfer, smudge or budge. Draws the line. Powers your eyes. Makes its point. Lasts and lasts.”
Bountiful Brown is described as “brown with bronze edge”.
It’s a rich golden brown with strong bronze tones. If bronze dust were mixed into milk chocolate this is the shade that would be born of the union.
I typically wear this on my lower lashline as a soft definition shade for daytime looks. Dark brown looks very harsh on my lower lashline. Bountiful Brown softly defines my eyes and looks very pretty on me. It’s difficult to overdo it with this shade.
As with Earth Sign, I have little luck getting this to last more than a few hours on me when it’s on the lower lashline. By the 4th hour it’s mostly gone. On my upper lashline it lasts about 7 hours.
Pros: Glides on easily, smooth formula, great lower lashline color for people with severe under eye darkness, nice shimmer that does not irritate the eyes.
Cons: Doesn’t “last and last” as MAC claims.
