Review: Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon

Would you all please take a moment to appreciate this glorious, magnificent, Queen of Matte Reds?

If you are not suffering from neck pain, please bow.

I have the mini version of Hourglass The Indestructible Matte.

Here it is:

The lipstick does need protective packaging because the lipstick itself is tiny. Like a mouse.

Or like a travel-size liquid lipstick.

From the website: “A richly pigmented, silky-smooth, matte lip color that delivers 14 hours of continuous wear without smudging or dryness.”

The tube is glamorous and chic. The applicator has a nice spring to it and deposits a nice amount of product on my lips.

Here is the swatch. It’s a little more true red than what you’re seeing in the photo.

The 14 hour claim didn’t come through for me, sadly. I got 5 hours of straight wear if I didn’t eat or drink. If I drank carefully I could preserve most of what was on my lips.

If I ate something, a considerable amount of it came off. I reapplied and it was fine. I find that the best method for applying this product is in two layers: one layer, then wait a couple of minutes for it to dry before applying the second layer.

The lip color is beautiful on me. I think this is a red that could work on anyone.

Pros: Beautiful color, matte finish, opaque, affordable (if you buy the mini size), great finish, nice packaging.
Cons: Doesn’t last for 14 hours, doesn’t stay put very well after eating and drinking.

Grade: B+

Despite the false claim, I still think I would repurchase this. I feel like a million bucks when I wear it!

14 hours? They went a little cray with that claim. It’s such a gorgeous color! Adding it to my Sephora love list. πŸ™‚

  3. I bowed when I saw the color. So pretty! It is a shame it didn’t last too well though, I rarely go half an hour without drinking, so this would not work for me at all.

Is it comfortable to wear? Most liquid matte lipsticks dry out my lips so badly that I can’t wear them.

The claim that it lasts 14 hours sis kind of ridiculous lol. It’s a gorgeous color and if you feel amazing in it it’s worth it. I have already added it to my wish list.

  7. Too bad it didn’t live up to the claims. It’s still a pretty shade though! I don’t think I’ve tried anything from Hourglass. I’ve always liked their packaging though.
