I heard all about these new offerings from Ciate London. I’ve already tried their nail polishes, so I wanted to check out their lip colors.
I bought Pin Up (“a universally flattering berry”) and Chatterbox (“deep magenta mauve).
Top to bottom: Chatterbox and Pin Up.
The formula is creamy and pigmented. It stained my lips a little. It takes a few seconds to dry down well enough to apply more.
The color of Pin Up is more berry than it appears in the photo. Chatterbox is a cross between purple and raspberry. It fades to more of a berry with time.
Both shades wore well for about 5 hours, provided I didn’t bite my lips or eat messily (voracious predators in the wild have better table manners than I do). I had to reapply by the 5th hour, but the damage wasn’t bad at all.
This wasn’t as moisturizing as I would have liked it to be. It wasn’t drying either. The change in weather (cooler, drier air) has led to my lips getting somewhat chapped. The lipsticks did little to change their condition, but they didn’t make it worse either.
The lipsticks give a matte finish, but it wasn’t too flat. I think the name “Liquid Velvet” is fitting. The applicator twists down and emits a locking sound when properly secured. This is nice for me because in the past lipstick tubes have busted open and made a huge mess in my purse.
Pros: Gorgeous colors, good pigmentation, easy to apply, nice packaging, lasts for 5 hours.
Cons: Not really moisturizing, only available where Ciate is sold.
