Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish in Gala-Vanting

Many companies have released at-home gel manicure nail polishes. Basically, you buy a special top coat for it and it should deliver the results of a gel manicure you would get at a salon with a UV lamp.

I bought the top coat and a “jovial marooned red” named Gala-Vanting.

I applied two coats of the color. It went on smoothly and gave me good coverage. After waiting 15 minutes for it to dry, I applied the top coat and let that dry. This is what my nails looked like the same day.

Not bad looking.

The manicure is supposed to last for two weeks. Here it is after one week.

The right hand isn’t looking so great.

Would I recommend this? No, I wouldn’t. I think it’s not better than the regular Essie line. I would tell you to just buy from that line instead.

Solely for research purposes, *cough cough* I would try one more shade from Gel Couture to see if perhaps I have better luck with other shades. If you haven’t bought this yet and are contemplating it, you’re not missing out on anything spectacular.

Are there any at-home gel nail color products you would recommend?

  1. Too bad this one didn’t live up to your expectations. Maybe you’ll have better luck with another shade after all? 🙂

  2. Oops! I’d go crazy before I could get the chipping get that bad, haha.

I haven’t explored essie nail polishes much. This one seems nice. But for someone like me who messes up any nail polishes I better give the slightly expensive ones a skip.

  4. I haven’t tried any of these…had a bad experience years ago with acrylics. I’ve been wanting to give one of OPI’s new colors a try…completely in love with the purple color, but my nails are fragile and I’m not sure I want to use something that need such a stringent soak off.

  5. That is a shade of red that I like alot tho…

  6. I only tried the Sally Hansen one and it was okay-ish, but nothing that swept me off my feet.
