Tuesday Talk: Self Care Sessions Vol. 27

How have you been, friend?

Today’s self care post will be a little different.

I want to talk about a few things that could be done for self care. If you have any ideas, post them in the comments.

1) Marathon watching a television show.

2) Listening to a music playlist.

3) Growing and planting something. If you live in an apartment you could grow plants in pots. I’ve found it really perks up my mood to plant something and watch it grow. 🙂

4) Look at Pinterest and search for images you love. I love photos of beautiful sunsets/sunrises, landscapes, and interiors of mansions.

5) See your friends. Human connections we make are necessary for our survival. Invite your friends over for lunch, or go on walks with them, just make sure you see them as often as you can.

6) Taking a break from the bullsh*t. If it’s harming you, leave it. It isn’t worth your sanity or your emotional wellbeing. Leave it.

7) Eat the foods you like. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Don’t deny yourself chocolate or pizza just because you’re worried about gaining weight. Eat the pizza sometimes. Your self care gets hungry!

8) There is only one of you. Put yourself first. If you have people in your life who need you (ex: young children) yes, care for them but don’t forget that you also need care.

9) Daydream as much as you can. We can escape to other places and lives without a passport. It’s fun, and it will keep us from getting over stressed.

What are your ideas about self care?

  1. I’ve been a stitcher since I was about 10, but lately, it’s been difficult for me to focus on the stitching, so I picked up my beads and started teaching myself to do some simple wire wrap with beads. I’ve been making bracelets for my friends and family members who are close. Sis thinks I should make a bunch and set up at a flea market or craft show and take a shot at selling.

I like repetetive actions that are meditative, and I like crafts, when I’m managing illness, that are easy to finish…short term projects that give me a sense of accomplishment. “Hey, look, I finished_______” makes me feel good, and sis really liking her xmas gifts makes me feel good as well. I’m looking forward to sharing my gifts, and it’s important for me to find things to look forward to, particularly when I’m struggling to feel better. Yay for crafting!!

  2. Rebecca Russell says:

I love all of the above ideas. Also for me I love playing with my makeup and nail polish. Even if I’m not applying makeup I love looking at all of the colors and swatching.

I was also very into cross stitch for years. I’ve found that I’ve gotten out of it the past few years and wasting time on my devices has taken over. I have so many kits and projects jus waiting to be picked up. One of my goals this year is to put down the devices more and pick up the crafting.

  3. Those are some really great ideas. Cooking/baking is a big one for me. I find that it really does help me because it keeps my mind busy for a while. And I get to eat the end result lol. I also like going for long walks. And shopping of course! 🙂
