If you grew up or lived for a lengthy period of time in a low-income neighborhood, certain beauty brands were known to you.
One of these brands is Nicka K.
When I was a teenager (and even after that), their $1 sometimes found their way into my purchases. The quality was hit or miss, but it was a fun and economical way to try out new colors.
With the current beauty trends focusing on liquid matte lipsticks, Nicka K has stepped up their game and introduced a line of such products.
I bought one shade only, for testing purposes: Jazzberry Jam.
The website displays a more purple-berry color. Its real color is a very bright, very hot pink.
The wand applicator is firm and durable, yet comfortable. It dispenses the right amount of product.
The color is less neon in person (my dratted camera refused to capture the image well enough). It’s not blue at all so it’s pretty wearable for me.
I applied one layer, allowed it to dry, then applied a second layer. Despite being quite pigmented, the color was somewhat uneven in certain spots. It didn’t even out even with two coats. It wasn’t obvious at a distance, but if someone were to examine my lips they would see it.
The texture and feel of this was somewhat heavy and felt almost dried glue-like (sort of like if you coated your lips in real paint and allowed it to dry). It wasn’t the most comfortable experience.
I’m willing to try one more shade to verify whether this issue is attached to just Jazzberry Jam or is common among the line. The cost of this was about $2.50, but I have seen it in other stores for $2.
