Review: Buxom Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick in Ruby Temptress

I’m really excited about all the new, formula-improved lipsticks on the market. Buxom created a gel lipstick formula that I had to try during the spring sale. I liked a couple of their (now discontinued) Full Bodied lipsticks, so I wasn’t opposed to testing out the brand new Big & Sexy line. I think so many brands are elevating their product lines, and I expect to see many more advanced lipstick products in the coming years.

These are exciting times we live in. Exciting and expensive.

What it is:
A lightweight gel lipstick with bold, one-stroke color in matte and satin finishes.

What it does:
Swipe lips with this vividly graphic, ultra-bold lipstick. It delivers intensely pigmented, one-stroke color in an ultra-lightweight gel formula. Featuring moisturizing matte and satin finishes, it leaves lips with a modern, daring look.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens

The shade I bought is Ruby Temptress, a matte brick-red.

I think it is brick-red, but it’s slightly brighter and more ruby than most brick reds I’ve tried.

It’s still gorgeous on my warm tan complexion.

The product feels more like a gel in solid form than a cream. It glides on smoothly and easily, with no slip or stickiness.

Once on, it stays on fairly well, but it does smudge when I chow down on my toasted bagel with cream cheese and coffee (hey, I need comfort food when I’ve hauled my protesting body out of bed at the crack of dawn to get to work on time).

It dries down matte, feels comfortable and doesn’t dry out my lips or fade unevenly.

The one-stroke claim depends, I think, on how pigmented your lips are. Mine are quite pigmented, so I needed more than one stroke. I was able to stain my lips in a way with one stroke, so it worked out for me in the end.

Pros: Beautiful color, feels comfortable, manageable packaging, lasts for a few hours, non-drying, pigmented, mostly refrains from transferring.
Cons: Not long lasting.

Grade: A-

This costs $22 USD.
